MJPL Book Club: Jameela Green Ruins Everything by Zarqa Nawaz

When: Tuesday, April 11 at 7:00 pm

Jameela Green Ruins Everything is a whip-smart black comedy about the price of success, and a biting look at what has gone wrong with American foreign policy in the Middle East. It is a compulsively readable, yet unexpectedly touching novel about one woman's search for meaning and connection, and about the lengths we go for those we love (Goodreads).

Cyberpunk Red (website).png

Cyberpunk RED TTRPG at the MJPL

When: Sundays from 2:00-4:30 pm

Where: Reading Room

"The 4th Corporate War's over and the big dogs have retreated to their corners to lick their wounds. That leaves everyone else to fend for themselves in a shattered world.

And that's just fine 'cause you've got interface plugs in your wrists, metal in your limbs, and chips in your skull. You're wired in, loaded with chrome, and ready to take it to the Edge.

There's a world full of opportunities out there. Maybe this time you can do more than save yourself. Maybe."

Cyberpunk RED is a tabletop roleplaying game set in the dark future of 2045. Charismatic Rockerboys, ambitious Execs, heavily chromed Solos and many others compete to build their names on the streets of Night City. Cybernetic implants push their abilities far past humanity's limits, but at what cost?

This program runs every Sunday. No experience is necessary and all supplies are provided.

For ages 15 and up; 14 and under welcome with a parent or guardian.

Registration required.

Loving Vincent (website).png

MJPL Movie Club: Loving Vincent

When: Monday, April 17 at 6:00 pm

Where: MJPL Theatre

Painstakingly assembled from 65,000 paintings made in the visual aesthetic of the great van Gogh, the experimental 2017 drama Loving Vincent is a singular and breathtaking vision like no other. Directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, it tells a story of the aftermath of van Gogh’s death, and the subjects of his paintings endeavouring to decipher the cause. Poetic and sensational as it brings Vincent’s art to life in a conversation on death, depression, and mental illness, it is one of the most provocative and stunning works of modern animation.

Showtime begins at 6:00 and a post-movie discussion will commence about 7:40.

Admission is free. No food or drink permitted in the Library Theatre.

For more information, contact the Library at 306-692-2787.
